Sea of Feet

2007- My Life Drawing teacher finally acknowledged my skill and talent as an artist and began to trust me with more advanced projects. I began working in a media called silverpoint and did studies layered one on top of the other, invisibly connecting the lines and building more and more. Eventually when I stepped beyond the original media I decided to add color en masse to the pieces. Sea of Feet was the culmunation of such efforts in mixed media. Its original coating and design in silverpoint is almost covered by the chalk and conte and would eventually be showcased at the Daughtery Arts Center in Austin, Texas.

Deadpool (after Liefield)

1994- In High School I would spend most of my time in class drawing from comic books. This was really helpful in developing a sense of perspective, line and depth in my future art. I would freehand copy art for hours with meticulous detail. Deadpool was one of the meticulous freehand drawings I did at the time. I altered the colors to some degree of the pencils I had done but for the most part it is almost indistinguishable from the original that appeared in Deadpool #1 by Rob Liefield.  This piece still hangs on my wall at home and was also showcased at a company art show I participated in some 8 years later.

After I graduted from High School, I did not understand the imperative of time and education. It took me about 3 months, but I got my first job working at Best Buy working as a cashier and scaling the retail work ladder. I put my dreams of being an artist on permanent hiatus and decided that work was my priority.  I was a sheep.

Whispering Nude

2007- For the first few classes in Life Drawing our instructor wanted us working only in charcoal. I was irked by not only my boredom in the media, but the choice of corpulent models. I still managed to put this together in under 3 minutes, placing frame structure, and indication lines of strong support with a few areas of minimal shading. The most beautiful part about the Whispering Nude is how her hand is just indicated, by a few scant lines, and your mind is left to interpret the rest.
