Kessler, Cody

Although scouts are not in love with Cody Kessler’s size or physical attributes, he had an impressive resume playing at USC for the Trojans. A 3 year starter who earned Pac 10 Honorable Mention in all 3 years, he finished his college career with 10,339 yards with 88 touchdowns to only 19 interceptions in a pro style offense. What’s even more impressive is that Cody played for 5 coaches over that tenure.  The knock on Kessler is that he is almost too comfortable taking the 2 or 3 yard dunk, rather than taking a shot downfield, and scouts did not like his downfield touch. While scouts mention that Kessler reminds them much of Aaron Murray, his tape really reminds me of Matt Schaub, right after he returned from his Lins Franc injury, (before teams full caught on to his read progression). Kessler is tabbed as a 5-6th round pick that I’d love to see the Texans make a move for and select in the 2016 draft.

Wow. This was an absolute stunning surprise. The Cleveland Browns (where all quarterbacks go to die) selected Cody with their supplemental 3rd round pick at the back end of round 3. He is expected to compete with RGIII for the starting job.

Fackrell, Kyler

Kyler Fackrell is an interesting prospect out of Utah State. Reminding me a lot of Connor Barwin, Fackrell would be a more highly regarded prospect, if not for an ACL injury sustained at the beginning of his 2014 campaign.  A first team all-Mountain West player in 2015, Fackrell had a school-record 12 quarterback hurries, and 4.0 sacks. He’d be named a semifinalist for the Butkus Award and earned an invitation to the Senior Bowl. Perhaps his most electric highlight came in 2013 when he made a spectacular 99 yard interception return for a TD.

Kyler has many of the qualities that scouts look for in a 3-4 outside linebacker.  He’s not scared to pin his ears back and blitz or stuff, cover or play special teams either. While at Utah State, he was a jack of all trades for the Aggies who is considered obsessive about the sport.  It is viewed that he can mature into an every down linebacker given some maturation into the pro game and was viewed as a solid 3rd round pick.

Kyler was selected late in round 3 of the 2016 draft by the Green Bay Packers.

Collins, Maliek

Maliek Collins was a defensive tackle for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.  He garnered second team All-Big Ten accolades and team Defensive co-MVP with 45 tackles, 14 for loss, and 4.5 sacks in his Sophomore year.   He started 12 of 13 games in 2015, but Collins’ production dropped with 29 tackles, seven TFL, and 2.5 sacks.  The ‘Huskers allowed Maliek to move around the line and displayed some good technique and moves along the way.  He figures into the 2016 NFL draft as a late second or third round choice.

The Dallas Cowboys were looking to fix their defensive problems after their recent years of futility. They’d select Collins early in the 3rd round.

Celebrating the game, the players, the cards, and the autographs for over 25 years.
