So Ashley’s autograph has come a long way since 1992 or 1993, when it more or less represented a signature, at least compared to what I got through the mail in 2018.

Since his time as the defensive backs coach for the Golden Bears of Cal, Ashley has been quite busy. He worked as an intern for the Saints in 2013, and followed that up with one year stints with the Idaho Vandals (2014) and Texas State (2015) as their cornerbacks coach. From 2016 to 2017, he coached for the Broncos of Boise State, and currently is at Colorado as their defensive backs coach- a capacity he held with the Buffs way back in 2010.

Ashley gets no respect. The venerable cornerman finished with 42 career interceptions, which is quite respectable in this day and age of football. He had some great cards over the years. After I got his autograph on his Star Pics cards, I had always wanted to get back around to him and get his Action Packed Rookies card signed- really as a set need, however his GameDay card really takes the cake in this spectacular action shot. It’s well framed and the action barely breaks the image plane at the top of the card.

Ashley’s TTM trail had grown cold. I noticed a few attempts through colleges he had previously coached with, so I made sure I had his current whereabouts in mind before I sent this out.

Collins, Todd (2)

Todd Collins finished his career at Carson-Newman with 27 games under his belt, 156 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions and 1 fumble recovery. He took interceptions of 44 yards and 75 yards to paydirt and earned All-South Atlantic Conference Honors in 1991. A 3rd round pick of the Patriots in 1992, Collins was a nice find and made two Super Bowl appearances- one with the Patriots and later on with the St Louis Rams.

It should be noted that there just wasn’t too many scouting photos of Todd available from his days in college, so both StarPics and Classic ran to the presses with the same image. The GameDay is absolutely stunning. Collins was well regarded for his long frame and it is definitely showcased here with him galloping across the field.

Wow… and with that Tommy Jeter vaults into the top 5 worst autographs I’ve ever seen. I mean don’t get me wrong… I’m happy and all that the Longhorn Legend signed these 2 cards for me, but this autograph is not really legible and they don’t really match at all. I guess I can make out a loop for ‘J’ and the hook at the front of the signature could count as a ‘T’ but this is a far cry from what I originally got from him at Eagles Training Camp back in 1994.  I wanted to get Tommy on these two additional cards I had for years. The Gameday 1992 was probably my favorite outside of the Star Pics entry and the Classic I couldn’t pass up since it’s a great action shot.

Really, this was more like a failure and then success, but when I get the RTS and I’m able to flip it right back out to a new address- I just count them one and the same.  Jeter is a family man now. He’s a huge fan of his kids who are all involved in sports at some level.  As of 2017, Tommy is a Regional Manager for ACME Brick Co.
