Feeley, AJ

CARDS: Atomic Titanium 2001, Leaf Rookies & Stars 2005 Longevity
ACQUIRED: TTM 2022, C/o Home
SENT: 7/8 RECEIVED: 7/16 (8 days)

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

  • AJ Feeley was a 5th round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2001.
  • He played QB from 1997-00 at Oregon.
  • Most of his statistical playing time was in 1999 when he threw for 1951 yards, and 14 TDs to 6 INT.
  • Feeley had a touch of magic during his time in Philly, leading the team to a comeback win in his rookie season, and helping the team win three games to secure the #1 seed his second year.
  • In 2004, AJ was traded to the Dolphins for a second round pick.
  • He’d battle incumbent Jay Fiedler all season long, but with bellcow RB Ricky Williams MIA, HC Dave Wannstedt, was fired midway through a disastrous season.
  • During that year he’d throw for a career high 1893 yards and 11 TDs.
  • Feeley was traded after the season to the San Diego Chargers, but buried on the depth chart, didn’t see any playing time.
  • AJ returned to Philadelphia in 2006, playing with the franchise as they transitioned from Donovan McNabb to Mike Vick.
  • Afterwards he entered into the journeyman phase of his career, with one year stops at Carolina (2009) and St. Louis (2010).

NOTES:

AJ had some wonderful cards and with him signing, I thought I’d get him on his marvelous Leaf card and a Atomic as a bonus. After I received the Atomic card in I realized I was really annoyed by the way the shadow from his helmet hits his face.

  • Played QB at UCLA from 1997-99, converting to WR in his Senior campaign of 2000.
  • Statistically didn’t have much to show, catching 8 passes for 167 yards, while throwing for 788 yards and 7 TDs on 57 of 104 throws, over college career.
  • Signed as a free agent by the Tennessee Titans in 2001 and impressed enough to make squad, catching 24 passes for 329 yards and a TD in rookie season.

  • Spent an additional two seasons in Tennessee posting sub 700 yard seasons.
  • Joined the St. Louis Rams in 2007, logging 34 catches for 379 yards and 3 TDs over the season and the following year.
  • Signed with the Ravens in 2009, but did not make the squad- retiring due to a lingering knee injury.
  • Since retirement has dabbled in broadcasting and commentary, moonlighting as an NFL analyst.

NOTES:

I really liked Leaf’s trading card design at this time- especially how the color hits these parallels. It absorbs the ink well and looks good on most colors- well- besides black.

Mark Brunell was one of these ageless wonders. He put in 19 seasons under his belt of solid to workmanlike/ journeyman quality work. In the annals of pro football, he doesn’t get the respect he deserves, but his arrival in Jacksonville heralded an era of respectability in Jaguars football. The owner of all of the passing records in the franchise’s record books when he departed the Jaguars after the 2003 season, Mark earned 3 Pro Bowl nominations, including MVP honors of the 2000 Pro Bowl.

Originally a 5th round pick out of Washington State by the Green Bay Packers in the 1993 draft, Brunell didn’t see much action playing for the Pack, sitting behind Brett Favre and Ty Detmer.  He’d be eventually traded to the Jaguars in 1995 for a 3rd and 5th round pick before the team’s inaugural season began. After his banner time in Jacksonville, Mark was traded to the Redskins and provided stability to the quarterback position in Washington from 2004 to 2007. During that period he’d break the NFL record for most consecutive completions in a game with 22. In 2008, he signed with the Saints- winning his lone Super Bowl Championship (XLIV) as Drew Brees’ backup.

Brunell played 2 more seasons for the New York Jets (2010-2012), before retiring. Since that time Mark has gone into coaching starting at the High School level, and as of 2019 is coaching in the Jacksonville area. Mark has made the news otherwise for all the wrong reasons financially, and at one point needed to file for bankruptcy. Those are always the most humbling moments- so it was not a big deal to send him the requested donation.
