Brown, Dominique

Dominique Brown played for the Louisville Cardinals. A short yardage back for the Cardinals, Dominique clicked in at 6’2″, 235 and reminded scouts of Toby Gerhart.   Frequently injured, Brown finished his Louisville career with 1,736 yards and 16 TDs on 399 carries (4.35 YPC), adding 47 receptions. Brown had a solid East-West Shrine performance, but then ran a flat 4.63/4.65 at his Pro Day with a brutal 9-foot-1 broad jump.  He was projected to go late in the 2015 draft, as scouts had questions about his dedication and work ethic.  He signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a free agent and later finished the season on the roster of the Pittsburgh Steelers rushing 18 times for 39 yards in 3 games. Currently Dominique is a free agent/ retired.

Muñoz, Anthony

Anthony Munoz was a fixture in the Cincinnati Bengals offensive line at right tackle for 13 seasons. Drafted out of USC in 1980 with the third overall pick, Munoz helped block up front for the diverse Bengals offense, that over the years added major pieces to help them reach two Super Bowls.  Along the way he earned numerous Pro Bowl and First and Second Team All-Pro Nominations (1981-1991).  He was named the NFL Man of the Year in 1991, and was named to both the NFL All-1980s team, and the NFL’s 75th Anniversary team.

He attempted to play one final season with the Buccaneers with his former head coach Sam Wyche in 1992, but a nagging shoulder injury prevented him from playing out the preseason. Arguably however, Munoz is considered the greatest offensive lineman ever to play the game.

I never thought I’d get Anthony Munoz autograph. Thanks in part to my friend Deadhorse, I was surprised with two. Munoz is difficult to attain through the mail, partially because he makes you jump through so many hoops filling out charitable paperwork, and the other part due to the cost. He has some great cards from over the years, but these two from ProSet were very nice. While I used to heckle the Piensalo one, it really is a well executed design feat in the years prior to Photoshop dominance.  Overall however, Anthony has a very solid autograph.

Anthony has remained active in the community since retirement and has his own charitable foundation. He also does color commentary for many of the Bengals preseason games.

Davis, Andre ‘Freakshow’ (USF)

Andre Davis AKA ‘Freakshow’ piled up the numbers while at USF. While the quarterback position suffered from inconsistency, Davis took the advice of his position coaches who suggested he could take his game to the next level by watching more game film and doing the little things to tweak his game. He would go on to set the Bulls consecutive game catch record but missed 4 games in his Senior season due to a sternum injury. Still Freakshow earned team MVP honors with 36 catches for 594 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2014. He got a lot of attention at the Shrine game and coaches and players alike liked his willingness to make the play. Still Andre couldn’t shake his initial scouting report despite his productivity because his measurables weren’t eye popping. What is going for the young receiver is his intangible ability to make plays when it counts in game time situations.

In early May of 2015 the Bills signed Davis to a free agent contract, where he has made serious noise for a roster spot with Buffalo. Caught in a numbers game, Davis was one of the final cuts at the end of the preseason. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers snagged Freakshow off of the waiver wire in October, where he  found a home on their practice squad. He’d be cut in April of 2016 and is currently a free agent.
