CARD: Action Packed Rookies 1991
ACQUIRED: eBay, 2025
CAREER SNAPSHOT:
- Tim McKyer played CB at University of Texas at Arlington where he’d be made into a 3rd round choice of the San Fransisco 49ers in 1986.
- Had a spectacular debut notching 45 total tackles, 23 pass deflections and 6 interceptions for 33 yards and a TD.
- Although McKyer displayed great speed and leaping ability he was frequently targeted in 1987.
- He had a very impressive ’88 campaign recording 7 interceptions, 19 pass deflections, and 39 tackles.
- After the ’89 season, McKyer was traded to the Miami Dolphins.
- He’d post 4 picks and 44 total tackles in his lone season there.
- Then for McKyer he’d be off to Atlanta in another trade in 1991.
- Quickly was paired with Deion Sanders and they formed a nasty CB duo, as Tim notched 6 picks in Atlanta in ’91.
- 1993 began truly Tim’s mercenary phase.
- He’d spend one year each with Detroit (’93), Pittsburgh (’94), Carolina (’95), Atlanta (again ’96), and Denver (’97), primarily as a situational starter.
- In possibly the highlight of his career while playing for Carolina in 1995, Tim posted a 96 yard interception against the ‘9ers, keying the Panthers 13-7 win.
- In 170 total contests, Tim finished with 33 interceptions for 235 yards and 2 TDs.
ACCOLADES:
- All Rookie Team 1986
NOTES:
Tim is a non-signer TTM so it’s been hard to nab him on the two Action Packed Rookies sets he appears in. I saw this for a pretty reasonable price and just had to take a chance at this price.
Tim’s passionate about his children- and after a divorce from his wife became extremely active in the little discussed issue of Men’s Parental Rights.
