Trail, Lynden

Card: Sage 2015
Acquired: 2016, EBay

Lynden Trail was one of the darlings of the Houston Texans venture onto Hard Knocks.  Going to college at Norfolk State, he finished his Senior season with 91 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, and 5 sacks. Undrafted in 2015, Trail signed a free agent contract with the Texans, but he tore his quad during the preseason and received an injury settlement from the Texans.  He’d recover and sign with the Washington Redskins spending time on and off their practice squad throughout 2016.  A project player with great physical attributes (6’7″, 269), Lynden has seen the field briefly during the NFL regular season recording 2 tackles and a pass deflection.  After a brief stint with the La Rams that year, he’d rejoin the Redskins.  I saw him play in the Spring League during 2018, and soon thereafter he signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL.

I had high hopes for Trail as a project for the Texans but obviously they didn’t have the patience that I did. He’s a real down to Earth story of humility and the everyday man you cheer for.

Evans, Dane

Card: Sage 2017
Acquired: 2017, Box Breaker

Dane Evans played college ball for the Tulsa Golden Hurricane from 2013 to 2016. He’d pass for 904 completions on 1577 attempts, for 11,680 yards, with 84 touchdowns to 47 interceptions.  Dane was the Hurricane’s all-time leading passer.  Evans was considered a sleeper in the 2017 NFL Draft, but he went unselected. He’d be signed by the Eagles, but be waived in the final cutdown before the regular season. In October of 2017, Dane signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL and was added to their practice squad.

Cavil, Kwame (3)

Acquired: In Person 2016, Jordan Shipley Camp

Kwame loves signing cards when I see him. When I presented these two cards to him after camp, his first response was, “Ohhhh yeah!” Cavil has been rounding the football camp for kids circuit over the past few years. He’s very good with them, knows how to organize and lead, and it seems that all the kids respond well in kind and just love him. As of 2016 Cavil has moved from Manor High School up to Temple where he coaches football as well.

Coincidentally both of these cards are very important numbers in their ‘limited release’ with the Sage being #1 of 4,500, and the Upper Deck issue coming in at 1000 of 1000. It means very little value wise, but as far as their place in my universe, it’s the first time I’ve ever hit on either end like that.
