Thomas, Jordan ‘JT’

Card: Topps AAF 2019 Certified
Acquired: 2019, EBay

Jordan Thomas was a highly touted recruit, and signed with Oklahoma in 2014. He was roughly a 4 year starter at the school, posting some eye popping numbers in his Sophomore year, with 46 total tackles, 4 pass deflections, and 5 interceptions for 153 yards and a TD. Jordan struggled to meet those numbers in his final two years at Norman- although he did manage to produce 17 pass breakups in his 2016 campaign.

JT was not selected in the 2018 NFL draft, but did manage to land with the Philadelphia Eagles. After being cut, Jordan signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and then later that year with the San Antonio Commanders of the fledgling AAF. JT made the Commanders, recording 2 tackles and a pass deflection during the preseason, but with a surfeit of talent at the CB position, he rarely saw action. JT saw playing time primarily in two contests, Week 2 against Orlando and Week 6 against Atlanta. He’d record 5 tackles in 8 games for San Antonio.

After the league disbanded, Jordan signed with the Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League. He’d put together 17 total tackles and 3 pass breakups in 2019.

stewart, Josh (UTSA)

Card: Topps AAF 2019
Acquired: 2019, EBay

Josh Stewart was considered a gem in the rough found by the AAF San Antonio Commanders. He was one of the first players signed to the team back in August of 2018. Josh was a fan favorite because he played college ball at UTSA for the Roadrunners in the Alamodome. In 2017 he finished with 518 yards on 39 catches and 3 touchdowns. In two years, Josh became the Roadrunners’ all-time leader in receiving yards with 1,200 and average yards receiving per game (50.0).

Josh got a lot of work in the preseason game against Atlanta, posting 4 receptions for 56 yards. He finished the abbreviated AAF season with 6 catches for 44 yards on 11 targets. His best game came in week 3 when Josh posted 2 catches for 19 yards, including a 15 yard long.

TCU alum Cole Hunt was an interesting name to watch for the San Antonio Commanders of the AAF in 2019. Unfortunately nagging injuries slowed his playing time. He saw action in a few games, logging 2 catches for 13 yards.

At 6’6″, 254 Cole provides nice size and blocking skills that most teams look for out of a tight end. Never logging more than 10 catches in a season, he finished with 25 receptions for 242 yards and 2 TDs, while splitting time between Rice (2014-2015) and TCU (2016-2017). After being cut by the Chargers in 2018, he’d join the Commanders for the ‘abbreviated’ Alliance football season, and quickly find a home with the Carolina Panthers in late April of 2019.

Cole did not make the roster of the Carolina Panthers, and later signed with the St. Louis Battlehawks of the XFL 2020, but was placed on IR early in the season.
