NOTES:

Barely missing the top 10 cut of longest waits is Charles Arbuckle. Obviously I felt I was never getting this one back but lo and behold at my old address, there it was some 880+ days later.

I never noticed until now that the UCLA logo was airbrushed off the helmet. By 1990, I thought that card companies stopped doing this, but I guess the NCAA or UCLA had something to say to Score about their logos. Great card though. The photography and color is spot on.

Once I knew that Charles was on the coaching staff of the Hotshots I moved him up in the queue to write to.

  • After the league folded, he was selected by the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL 2020.

  • Over 5 contests Kaelin had 15 total tackles and an interception.

NOTES:

Kaelin has continued to pursue and chase his pro football dreams. I made a bunch of custom cards for former AAFers after the league folded and Kaelin was kind enough to respond to me signing this card for me. It appears he was quite popular, as a few fans also have asked me for copies of it as well.

Bradford, Carl (2)

Sage 2014, #27

Card: Sage 2014
Acquired: IP 2019, Houston Roughnecks Season Ticket Holders Party

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

  • See Also Carl Bradford

  • After AAF folded, Carl was selected by the XFL Houston Roughnecks during the open phase of the league draft.

  • In 5 games, Carl posted 5 combined tackles, 2 sacks, 2 quarterback hits, and one tackle for loss.

NOTES:

I didn’t really have much else of Carl Bradford left except for his Sage card. A few days later I got in his Upper Deck that I hoped to eventually get signed but the league folded before that happened.

At the season ticket holders party, Carl was a great ambassador for the XFL. His exuberance and excitement was infectious to all the fans around him. He was willing to sign anything you had and gave you his full attention while doing so. We chatted briefly about the AAF and the card he had, to which he told me he had a stack of the player issued cards at home somewhere, and he had an amazing experience playing for the Hotshots.
