Pritchett, Wes

The Fighting Irish had quite the linebacking corps from back in the day. During their prominent title runs of the late 1980s, the group had Frank Stams, Michael Stonebreaker, and Wes Pritchett manning the platoon. Called ‘The Three Amigos’, Pritchett was the black hole in the middle that soaked up targets and tackles. During his Senior campaign in 1988, he led the team in tackles with 112.

Wes was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the 6th round of the prolific 1989 draft. He’d later suit up for 3 contests for the Atlanta Falcons in 1991.  The New York- New Jersey Knights then selected Wes during the 1992 WLAF Supplemental Draft.  He’d see action during the season recording a sack and an interception for 19 yards.

As of 2017, Pritchett lives in the Atlanta area where he runs a very successful financial securities group.

Griswold, Darion ‘Big Griz’

Darion Griswold passes the eyeball test clocking in at 6’5″, 255 which despite his anemic statistics make him an intriguing prospect. Another one of these basketball to tight end players Griswold is considered a project for many teams. Although he has the frame and hands, Big Griz is not considered a refined run blocker, nor an immediate threat off the line, as he is still perfecting his route trees.

His athletic skills alone have qualified Griswold as a late round selection in the 2016 draft.  After the 2016 NFL Draft Darion signed with the Indianapolis Colts. He’d be cut with an undisclosed injury settlement before the preseason began. In 2017 he signed a futures contract with the Atlanta Falcons, but again was cut with an injury settlement before the regular season began.

Johnson, Gus

Gus Johnson was an intriguing prospect out of Stephen F. Austin. In 2014, he added the Southland Conference Player of the Year honors to his impressive resume, which also included being a 3 time All-Southland Conference selection. A bowlegged and stout runningback (5’10”, 215), Gus was a gritty player who has a nice, deceptive burst at the second level.  He finished his career with the Lumberjacks with 631 carries for 3892 yards and 51 TDs. Gus also had 57 receptions for 417 yards and a TD. He went unselected in the 2015 draft.

After a brief stay on the Falcons, Gus signed with the  Dallas Cowboys.  The Cowboys were reloading at runningback after the sudden departure of DeMarco Murray. Gus led the Cowboys in the preseason in rushing, but confident in the stable of Darren McFadden, Joseph Randle, and Lance Dunbar, they opted to cut Johnson.  He was signed to the practice squad, and then cut later in the month. Gus quickly signed with the Atlanta Falcons and was placed on their practice squad. He remained with the Falcons through mid-2016. Afterwards Gus has spent time on a variety of rosters around the league including the Chargers, Falcons (2nd time), Chargers (2nd time), and finally the Steelers. He is currently a free agent.
