Bax, Carl

Card: Wild Card World League 1992
Acquired: TTM 2020, C/o Home
Sent: 5/4 Received: 5/15 (11 days)

Carl Bax played college ball at Missouri from 1985-1988. The 6’4″, 290 lb guard blocked up front for runningbacks Tommie Stowers and Robert Delpino. Carl was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1989 during the 8th round. He played two seasons for the franchise.

In 1991, Carl was selected by the Barcelona Dragons of the World League of American Football. He’d block up front at Tackle for the Barcelona Dragons. Right before the 1992 season began however, he’d be traded stateside, where he played for the Birmingham Fire.

Carl is the founder of Premiere Orthopedic and lives in Tampa, Florida. Carl was a pretty easy find for me, thanks to his unique name, and he signed his Wild Card for me in a short amount of time, writing best wishes to me on the card.

O’Shea, Terry

Card: Ultimate WLAF 1992
Acquired: TTM 2019, C/o Home

Terry O’Shea played Tight End in college at California- of Pennsylvania. A team captain for the Vulcans football team, O’Shea was a three-time, first-team all-PSAC selection, and in 1988 he was a Harlon Hill regional finalist. He finished his college days with 123 catches for 1,429 yards and six touchdowns.

Terry was a nice free agent find by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1989. He caught 2 passes for 16 yards over his NFL career, but was cut in 1991 during training camp. He’d be later selected by the Barcelona Dragons of the WLAF and play for the team during their 1992 season. Unfortunately he suffered a bad back injury that essentially ended his playing career. Terry was inducted into the California Vulcans Hall of Fame in 1996.

He currently resides in Pennsylvania, signed this card for me and wrote a nice note saying that, “I must have really had a good childhood.”

Wiese, Brett

Card: Ultimate WLAF 1992
Acquired: TTM 2018, C/o Work

Brett Wiese played collegiality for the Washington Huskies from 1985-1988. A blocker who was prized for his flexibility to play all positions on the line, Brett played alongside a studded team of prospects that included Bern Brostek, Cary Conklin, Greg Lewis, Andre Riley, and Mario Bailey. After going unselected in the 1989 NFL Draft, Brett signed with the New England Patriots, and then later played for the San Fransisco 49ers in 1990 and 1991.

He’d be selected in the first round of the 1992 WLAF draft and play one season for the franchise overseas before returning stateside when the league reorganized.

Wiese lives in Bellevue, Washington and is a real estate developer and business lawyer. A class act, he sent a really nice note, copy of the autograph, and the autographed card back with his correspondence.
