Blizzard, Bobby

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

  • Bobby Blizzard played TE for Kentucky in 1999-00 posting 30 receptions for 275 yards.
  • Transferred to North Carolina, and after sitting out a year, played for the Tar Heels in in 2002 and 03.
  • Led the team in ’02 with 28 receptions for 440 yards and 5 TDs and garnered national attention for positional watch lists.
  • Felled by viral meningitis during senior year, impacting his numbers.
  • Finished college career with 78 receptions for 876 yards and 6 TDs.
  • Went undrafted in the 2004 NFL Draft, but signed as a free agent by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
  • After being cut, was signed by the Cardinals.
  • Assigned to the NFLE, Blizzard played for the Hamburg Sea Devils.
  • Caught 34 passes for 335 yards and 2 TDs.
  • Returned to the Cardinals but was injured and released.
  • Signed by the Baltimore Ravens late in the year and was on the team’s practice squad through mid-06.
  • Had an outstanding year in Europa playing for the Cologne Centurions in 2007, leading most TEs in all receiving categories.
  • The Bengals signed Blizzard to the team that year, but he suffered a career ending back injury.
  • Bobby joined his former coach at Kentucky- Hal Mumme at a variety of stops at the Division III level.
  • In 2019, Bobby followed Mumme to the AAF serving as TEs coach of the Memphis Express.
  • After the league collapsed, he joined Mumme on the staff of the XFL Renegades as RB coach, and later as co-offensive coordinator in 2020.

NOTES:

A nice coup for me, Bobby is another solid player/ prospect of the NFLE/Europa who has become an intriguing up and coming coaching prospect. An apostle of the Hal Mumme tree, Blizzard came to my attention after he joined the AAF in 2019. I’ve been a fan ever since.

  • Bramlet played QB for Wyoming from 2000-03.
  • He ushered in a new era of quarterbacking at the school, breaking school records for passing throwing for 3,000+ yards in 3 straight seasons.
  • Selected in the 7th round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.
  • Buried on the depth chart, he’d be allocated to the Hamburg Sea Devils in 2005.
  • Getting valued playtime in Europe, Casey started all 10 games for Hamburg.
  • Cut by the Bengals in 2005, he’d sign with the Redskins in 2006.
  • Assigned by the Redskins to Europa in 2007.
  • Led the Sea Devils to a victory in World Bowl XV.
  • Threw for 2019 yards on 151 of 254 passes, and 16 TDs to just 4 picks.
  • Cut by Redskins, but saw time as an emergency quarterback on the rosters of both the Falcons and Dolphins in 2007.
  • Took a cup of coffee with the Chargers and Ravens in ’08 before heading over to the CFL.
  • Signed by the Blue Bombers in 2009, and saw action briefly in 2 games.
  • Retired after the season and currently works in the financial industry.

Casey was part of a collection of oversized team issued postcard autographs I got from a friend of mine. I was tickled that I was able to get the World Bowl XV MVP’s autograph among them.

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

  • Played collegially at the University of Miami, FL for Jimmy Johnson.
  • From the defensive end position, finished as the school’s all time leading sacker with 39.5.
  • Also chipped in 267 tackles and 25 TFL.
  • Second round pick of the San Fransisco 49ers in 1988.
  • Utilized primarily as a pass rushing specialist, chipped in 6 sacks in rookie season.
  • Reunited with Jimmy Johnson in draft day trade along with RB Terrence Flagler in 1990 to play with Cowboys.
  • Paid immediate dividends at DE, with 59 total tackles, 7.5 sacks and 2 fumbles.
  • After acrimonious holdout, was passed in depth chart by Tony Tolbert and was cut during the 91 season.
  • Claimed by the Bengals and moved to outside linebacker for the final 7 games of the year.
  • Had solid season in 1992, racking up a career high 9 sacks.
  • After a year with the Eagles in 1995, reunited again with college and Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson to close out career.
  • Played 3 final seasons with Dolphins and was released in early 1999.

NOTES:

I hadn’t ever gotten Danny at Cowboys training camp as he was with the team just one camp before his holdout. It was a longtime coming, but the Score Supplemental had sat in my deck for years and needed to be signed.

Oddly I got an RTS on Danny even though I had the correct address and saw other people getting back successes from him. I decided to go ahead and try again and luck had it, I got him this time. Maybe his mailbox was full. I am not sure.
