Griffin, Leonard

Gameday 1992, #449

CARDS: Fleer 1990, Score 1990, Gameday 1992
ACQUIRED: TTM 2022, C/o Home
SENT: 1/19/22 RECEIVED: 4/21/22 (98 days)

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

  • Had 164 total tackles playing for Grambling State on the DL.
  • 3rd round pick in 1986 of the Kansas City Chiefs.
  • Situational starter on the line early in career used at DT and NT, that developed into fulltime starter in the middle of the ’89 season.
  • Had 6 tackle, 2.5 sack game against Houston Oilers during that season, earned him player of the week honors.
  • Had 263 total tackles after the ’92 season.
  • Retired after the 1993 season.

NOTES:

Well, card companies cashed in on Leonard after he got that NFL Player of the Week Honor in 1989 for roughing up the Oilers. He had zero cards before that and then Score, Topps and Fleer all added Leonard in their respective sets for 1990. The shot above from the GameDay card is probably from that game as well.

Krieg, Dave (2)

Fleer 1990, #269

CARDS: ProSet 1990, ProSet 1989, Fleer 1990
ACQUIRED: TTM 2020, C/o Home
SENT: 3/16 RECEIVED: 5/20/22 (776 days)

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

NOTES:

Before I had cooked up my plan to get a Dave Krieg autograph out of the really jaded collector mentioned in my previous Krieg post, I had sent to him and was dismayed to miss out on a response. Surprisingly he began to drop correspondence in the mail around 2 months before I got this success- after a bit over a 2 year wait.

Note: The Fleer 1990 is an uncorrected error card. Krieg’s name is mistakenly spelled ‘Kreig’ on the front of the card. As it was uncorrected and in high circulation, it’s worthless.

Gray, Quinn (2)

CARD: Frankfurt Galaxy Team Issue 2003
ACQUIRED: 2022, Private Acquisition

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

NOTES:

Just a lovely card with a simple, yet dynamic design and great photography. Quinn was one of the more recognizable names from this acquisition I made from a friend of mine- CFLFanInPhilly.

I was really touched by his willingness to part with these cards at an affordable price. He also told me that he’d been approached by college team set autograph collectors who offered to buy the cards out separately from their favorite teams, but he wanted them to go to someone who’d actually value all of them based on their appreciation of Spring Football.
