CAREER SNAPSHOT:

  • Played college ball for Ohio State returning 24 kicks for 520 yards and catching 8 passes for 142 yards and a TD over 1984 and 1986.

  • Selected in the 7th round of the 1987 draft by the San Diego Chargers.

  • A blazing long distance runner, he was part of the Ohio St  400 Meter Relay team. 
  • Saw time as a wide receiver, kick returner, and moonlighted occasionally as a runningback over 3 seasons for SD.

  • Best season came in 1988 when Jamie logged 810 yards on 31 kick returns, scoring a 94 yard TD.

  • During 1988 also had 536 Yards receiving and a TD on 39 catches.

  • Over 3 seasons ran 10 times for 82 yards.

  • Traded to the Los Angeles Raiders in 1990, seeing time exclusively as a kick returner. 
  • Started 3 games in 1992 playing for the Cleveland Browns starting 3 games.
  • Played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1994, catching 35 passes for 485 yards and 2 TDs.
  • Split time with the Blue Bombers and the Roughriders in 1995 retiring after the season.

Jamie wrote me a nice note thanking me for writing him. He has an amazing autograph, with just the right amount of pressure and curves, and an elegant enough stroke, at just the right size. Jamie was lucky, to play when he did, as he had some great cards produced during his playing days.

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

  • Bill Pickel played college ball at Rutgers where he honed his unique quick set 4 point stance playing all along the line.

  • He ranks sixth in career sacks (16) as well as 10th on the career unassisted tackles list with 160 for the Scarlet Knights.

  • Selected in the 2nd Round of the 1983 draft by the Los Angeles Raiders who employed him at both DT and NT over his career.

  • Enjoyed 3 consecutive double digit sack seasons from 84-86.

  • Played 7 seasons for the Raiders (83-90) logging 53 sacks and 454 tackles.

  • Moved closer to home and played for Jets from 90-93 to finish out career.

When I got Tecmo Bowl as a kid I did not think that ‘Pickle’ was a real player on the Raiders. My friends and I always got a kick out of sacking each other as Bill. He also made an appearance on the TV show Home Improvement during the 90s. To keep himself busy now, Bill coaches the defense of a HS football team and works in private aviation.

Adams, Stefon

A true ironman at East Carolina, Stefon Adams displayed athletic ability playing runningback, wide receiver, and defensive back over his time for the Pirates, from 1981 to 1984. He concluded his career at ECU with 47 receptions for 676 yards, 31 rushes for 123 yards and 3 TDs, and an interception for 20 yards.

Stefon was drafted by the Los Angeles Raiders in the 3rd round of the 1985 draft. Stefon played in 53 games for the Silver and Black. He was used primarily as a return man, with 30 punt returns for 240 yards and 60 kickoffs for 1,191 yards. Adams also recorded 2 interceptions for 40 yards and 6 fumble recoveries. He’d spend the 1990 season with the Browns and Dolphins.

In 1992, he played in the World League with the Sacramento Surge– winning World Bowl II with the team. He caught a giant pass from David Archer to sustain a drive on 3rd down, deep in their own territory against the San Antonio Riders in the Win or Go Home contest. Stefon went on to play in the Arena football league in 1994 and 1995 for the Charlotte Rage and then the Connecticut Coyotes, catching 26 passes for 391 yards and 6 TDs on offense, and 22 total tackles, 2 pass breakups, and 2 forced fumbles on defense. Adams concluded 1995 by playing for the Hamilton Tiger-cats in the CFL.
