Quinton Patton was a 4th round pick out of Louisiana Tech by the San Fransisco 49ers in 2012.
A two year starter at WR for LA Tech, he caught 183 passes for 2594 yards and 24 TDs.
Played four seasons for the ‘9ers.
Best season came in 2016, catching 37 passes for 408 yards, but finished the season on IR.
Signed with the Jets in 2017, but was later released with an injury settlement.
Joined the AAF in 2019 as a member of the Birmigham Iron.
In the league debut, he caught 4 passes for 104 yards.
Caught 33 passes for 372 yards in 8 contests for the Iron.
NOTES:
Great card of Quinton. His base card is equally impressive. He’s still a big football fan, and has recently directed his attention towards helping young athletes develop their football potential.
Pat saw limited playing time in the Fighting Irish secondary until 1988, when he had 38 total tackles, 2 picks for 84 yards, 2 fumble recoveries and a TD.
He became the leader at Safety in 1989, posting 44 tackles, 9 pass deflections, 5 interceptions for 96 yards, a fumble recovery and a TD.
With a solid sub 4.4 40, Pat was a lock first round pick, selected by the DB needy Los Angeles Rams in 1990.
The Rams deployed Pat eventually at free safety, and he’d play for the franchise through the 1993 season.
After a season with the Jets in 1994, Pat saw a renaissance when he signed with the expansion Carolina Panthers in 95.
In 1995 and 96 he arguably had his best pair of seasons back to back posting 3 interceptions and 60+ tackles in each while playing free safety.
Needing a replacement for departed safety Eugene Robinson, the Packers signed Pat in 1998.
He’d see action in 3 contests, recording a pick, retiring after the season.
NOTES:
Pat is a very successful businessman and owns Terrell Materials Corp, which specializes in large concrete batches. I had failed on him way, way back in 2011, so I was tickled to make him my first success of 2023, especially considering he has such a low rate.
Action Packed was one of my favorite sets when I was younger. I’m now closing in on the last 15 or so of the set that need to be autographed, a mere 33 years later.
After a year at Louisville, and then Torrance JC, Matt Simms transferred to Tennessee for 2010.
He threw for 1460 yards and 8 TDs while completing 113 of 195 pass attempts.
After going unselected during the 2012 NFL Draft, he’d sign a free agent contract with the New York Jets, and spent the season on and off the practice squad roster and futures list.
Simms saw a promising preseason in 2013, and then later threw his first professional football TD late in the season.
After seeing limited playing time again in the 2014 season, the team drafted two quarterbacks during the 2015 NFL Draft.
Simms would be claimed off of waivers in 2015 by the Buffalo Bills.
He’d join the Falcons practice squad after that and be on and off the team’s practice squad through 2017- when he was released with an injury settlement.
Matt was selected during the second round of the ‘Protect or Pick’ AAF QB draft by the Atlanta Legends.
The Legends went back and forth all season between Matt and former Georgia star Aaron Murray.
Threw for 842 yards and 2 TDs (8 INT) on 79 of 132 passes for Atlanta.
After the AAF collapsed in 2019, Matt resigned with the Falcons, but was placed on IR soon thereafter, ending his season and his career.
NOTES:
Great autograph and card. Love the ‘Caesar-esque’ pose. Matt comes from a solid line of QB bloodlines, with his father Phil and brother Chris, both playing in the NFL at the position as well. I took a shot on Matt on his Topps AAF base card at his parent’s house back in 2019, thinking he’d open it over Christmas- but going on 3 years now, no dice.
Celebrating the game, the players, the cards, and the autographs for over 25 years.
