Texas Tech Red Raiders RB Kenny Williams hailed from Pflugerville, Tx- right outside of Austin. He played four years in Lubbock, and had 322 carries for 1534 yards, 16 TDs while displaying a knack for the catch with 60 receptions for 631 yards and 4 TDs- and while he led the team in rushing both in 2012 and 2013, he switched to LB in 2014- the position he played in high school. Undersized (5-9 225), but fast, with ideal athleticism, Williams also was a solid special teams contributor. Scouts still viewed him as an RB and he was tabbed as one for the 2015 NFL draft. He’d go unselected.
I think that a guy like Kenny with all the tools to play the game would make a great developmental fit for one of the new spring leagues like the AAF or the new XFL. Time will tell.
Chris Hackett played for the TCU Horned Frogs from 2012-2014 at defensive back and safety. His best season came in 2014, when he posted 75 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 6 passes defended, and 7 interceptions for 131 yards. Over his career at TCU he posted 224 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 11 passes defended, 1 fumble recovery, and 12 interceptions for 154 yards. Chris declared early and headed to the NFL. Scouts were mixed about his talent at the next level, and an unimpressive combine sealed his fate.
Hackett was not selected in the 2015 NFL draft. He’d sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but was released during final cutdowns. Later that year, Hackett was signed by the Oakland Raiders to their practice squad. He’d be released during the 2016 preseason. Currently he’s a free agent.
DaVaris Daniels had a mixed college career at Notre Dame due to academic issues. While never fully realizing his potential as a receiver for the Fightin’ Irish, he had brief moments of highlight worthy film. His best year came in 2013 when he had 49 receptions for 745 yards and 7 TDs. He declared for the 2015 NFL draft but went unselected.
Daniels signed with the Minnesota Vikings after the draft and then later briefly spent time on the roster of the Patriots. Eventually he found his way North to the CFL Calgary Stampeders in 2016. He earned the league’s honor for the Most Outstanding Rookie catching 51 passes for 885 yards and 9 TDs.
Celebrating the game, the players, the cards, and the autographs for over 25 years.
