Solomon, Clinton

Card: TNT AFL 2014
Acquired: TTM 2017, C/o Home
Sent: 2/22    Received: 4/19    (56 days)

Clinton played for the Iowa Hawkeyes in 2002, 2004, and 2005. He piled up 1864 yards on 118 receptions and 14 TDs over his 3 years there. His best season came as a Junior when he logged 58 receptions for 905 yards and 6 TDs- earning him 2nd Team All-Big Ten Honors.

Going undrafted, Solomon signed with the St Louis Rams in 2006. Afterwards he was on the rosters of the Titans and Bears in 2007. He signed with the Arena Chicago Rush in 2008, and finally found his home with the Wichita Wild of the IFL in 2009, where he was named 1st team All-IFL after posting 22 TDs and 1,008 yards receiving.  He again earned All-IFL selections in 2010 and 2011. Clinton spent then next two seasons with the Sioux Falls Storm, and briefly played for the Kansas City Renegades.

In 2014 Clinton joined the Texas Revolution.  Soon thereafter he’d be signed by the snake bitten San Antonio Riders of the AFL. After the season the Talons were contracted, but he was assigned to the Las Vegas Outlaws. After the Outlaws were also contracted, Solomon returned to the Texas Revolution in 2016 reuniting with former Talon Brett Reece.  Clinton finished the season as the team leader with 63 receptions for 793 yards and 25 TDs.

A few years ago I had started tracking down members of the Talons who I had made cards of. I attempted to friend Clinton on Facebook, but he did not respond to me for over a year. I reached out to him when he did and he agreed to do a signing for me. Apparently he was more excited than I intially thought, because after he signed the card, he also inscribed the back of the envelope thanking me for the trading cards.

Jackson, Marcus

tntafl14 mjacksonCard: TNT AFL 2014
Acquired: In Person, 5/3/2014 Talons vs. Barnstormers.

Marcus Jackson played collegiality for the TCU Horned Frogs, where he battled with Andy Dalton for the starting job. He signed with the San Antonio Talons as an emergency afterthought when starting quarterback Rohan Davey sustained a season ending injury. At first it appeared he’d back up Jeff Kent at quarterback, but Jackson came in during the final game of the 2013 season and sparked the team to victory over the Philadelphia Soul.

A dangerous scrambler, Jackson is deft with his legs. In 2014 he came on in occasional relief of Shane Boyd and Mitch Mustain, but unable to supplant them at quarterback or spark the team to victory he was released during the season when the team signed Matt Bassuener.  Jackson has also seen stops with the Wichita Wild, Texas Revolution, and the Wichita Falls Nighthawks of the IFL.

Brett Reece Jr. is a great example of why leagues like the AFL and CIF need to exist.  Playing for a school like Ouachita Baptist out of Arkadelphia, Arkansas shouldn’t prevent you from realizing your dreams as a football player, and Reece has continued to play at every opportunity that has been afforded to him.

During his sophomore season, Brett recorded a team high 825 receiving yards and 6 TDs on 46 receptions. In 2011, he led the Tigers in receiving with 30 receptions for 489 yards and 3 TDs en route to an All-GAC Second Team Selection.

tntafl14 reeceBrett has continued to play in different Arena style leagues since then. He made 5 receptions for 43 yards for the San Antonio Talons, before being reassigned back to the Texas Revolution. In 2015, he was off to a fast start before suffering a season ending foot injury. Still he finished as the Revs leading receiver in 2015 with 34 receptions for 424 yards and 9 TDs in just 6 games- earning CIF Offensive Player of the Week Honors in Week 6.

I had created Reece’s card shortly before he was reassigned by the Talons. Since I didn’t have a good photo of Reece, I worked over an old photo of his from Ouachita. Pretty darn good if I say so, and Reece loved it. Brett contacted me again in 2015 and told me that he liked the Talons card so much, he wanted me to do one of him in his Revs uniform. I literally cranked this Revs design out in a day or two, and it too looks amazing.
