Bradford, Carl

Card: Topps AAF 2019
Acquired: 2019, Future Considerations

I’ve been working with and helping out a local UT collector named Mark recently. He and I have traded tips and helped each other out on the autograph front. A few weeks ago he sent me a package and this was inside. It was totally unexpected but very appreciated.

Carl Bradford played for Arizona State at outside linebacker/ defensive end from 2011 to 2013, racking up 154 total tackles, 21.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 4 pass deflections, and 2 interceptions. He’d be selected in the 4th round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. He really didn’t see too much action at the pro level and as a tweener the Pack couldn’t decide if they should play him inside or outside. By 2016 was on the roster of the 49ers and was cut in 2017. Over his pro career Bradford had 3 combined tackles, and 1 TFL.

Carl was signed by the Arizona Hotshots of the AAF for 2019. He finished with 11 total tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 1 pass deflection and a forced fumble in what looks like 4 games of action. His best game came against Atlanta when Carl posted 6 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, a sack, and a forced fumble.

Martini, Greer

Card: Topps AAF 2019
Acquired: BB 2019

Greer Martini played in college for Notre Dame from 2014-2017, where his stat line increased every year. During his senior campaign he lodged 75 total tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 interception for 42 yards and a TD. After going undrafted, he made the practice squad of the Packers but was waived mid season.

He joined the Salt Lake Stallions in 2019, and had a very solid campaign. Over the 8 games Greer compiled 35 total tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 4 pass deflections and an interception. Greer’s best game came in Week 3 against the Arizona Hotshots, when he posted 7 tackles (4 solo, 3 ast), a pass deflection and an interception of John Wolford, which paced the Stallions towards their first win of the season.

Stewart, Orion

When the different AAF groups were talking about what players they were impressed by, I was surprised that they brought up the lumber laying Orion Stewart. He was apparently really impressing in camp for the Commanders. He quickly proved to me during that first game what a force he was for SA in the secondary, laying down the law against the Fleet. In that first game he hauled in a pick, deflected two passes, and made 6 tackles. At the end of the game, he and a gaggle of players came over to the visitor’s endzone and mugged my sister and me for hugs… well primarily my sister- but still it was a great memory to make- and Stewart became one of my favorite players.

Orion was a 3 time All-Big 12 safety at Baylor, playing in 49 games while starting 36 of them. He recorded 12 interceptions over his time playing for the Bears, and ended up third on the school charts with 227 career interception return yards.

Stewart was not selected in the 2016 NFL Draft- and saw brief stops with the Broncos, Redskins, Giants, and Bills. In 2018 he signed with the Commanders and he and Derron Smith made the most fearsome safety duo in the league. He also came up with a nickname for the secondary (- which was one of the league leaders in creating turnovers), calling their group “Area 51”. In fact at the last game, I brandished a homemade sign with it on there as well.

After the league collapsed, Orion signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019. He signed his base card in 22 days- which was a day after his certified arrived in the mail. I got an incredible deal on the certified autograph. I got 4 for about half the price of a hobby box, and a hobby box typically comes with 3 autographs, so you do the math.
