Hull, Bart

Card: All-World 1991
Acquired: TTM 2019, C/o Home
Sent: 10/28 Received: 11/2 (5 days)

The 3rd overall pick of the 1991 CFL draft by the British Columbia Lions, Bart Hull played collegiality for Boise State. A bruising fullback, he rushed for 350 yards on 105 carries, and caught 25 passes for 164 yards. Hull had a nose for the end zone scoring 13 rushing TDs.

Before the season began, BC shipped Bart to the Ottawa Rough Riders for Tony Kimbrough (QB). Bart returned one kick for 11 yards and rushed 2 times for 10 yards, but suffered a gruesome knee injury ending his season after only 3 games. After being cut by the Rough Riders in 1992, he’d briefly see some time on the practice squad of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. After a hiatus, Hull returned to the CFL in 1994 as a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders seeing action in two games before being cut.

Bart comes from an athletic family, and being originally from Canada, he played some minor league hockey for the RHI and WCHL. In 1999 he was spotted again briefly playing indoor football as a member of the Idaho Stallions of the IPFL.

Bart works in business development now, and as of 2019 was living in the Dallas area. A great looking card of Bart, he signed this one in no time flat.

Wuensch, Bobby

Cards: UT UD 2011 Icons, UTD 2011
Acquired: TTM 2019, C/o Home
Sent: 9/3 Received: 9/19 (16 days)

Bobby Wuensch played offensive tackle for the blue chip studded Texas Longhorns from 1968 to 1970. He’d earn All-SWC and All-American Honors in 1969 and 1970. With Bobby in the lineup the Longhorns went 30-2-1 over that span, and he’d also be named a Co-Captain of the 1970 National Championship team. A Southwest Conference and Cotton Bowl All-Decade Team member (1970s), Bobby was selected by the Baltimore Colts in the 12th round of the 1971 draft, but did not play in the NFL. He was inducted into the Longhorn Ring of Honor in 1990, and consistently ranks among the Top 50 greatest Longhorns.

Bobby wrote me a nice note with my autograph request and as of 2019 lives in Houston.

Buddenberg, John

Cards: Ultimate World League 1992, Jogo 1994, Jogo 1995
Acquired: TTM 2019, C/o Home
Sent: 8/29 Received: 10/8 (40 days)

A three year starter at the University of Akron at tackle, John Buddenberg clocked in at 6’5″, 279. He’d be selected in the 10th round of the 1989 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns and then later spent time on the rosters of the Minnesota Vikings (1989) and Pittsburgh Steelers (1990). During his time in the NFL, Buddenberg was shifted inside to play guard.

In 1991 John was selected by the Sacramento Surge of the World League of American Football. A stalwart member of the Surge’s offensive line front, he played in all 20 regular season games for the franchise over the lifetime of the World League (1991-1992), earning first-team All-World League in ’92. For both years he’d return to the NFL and was on the practice squad of the Atlanta Falcons.

After the World League reorganized following the 1992 season- the Sacramento Surge jumped to the CFL and became the Goldminers. John joined the franchise and played both guard and tackle for Sacramento in 1994, and (for the franchise when it moved to San Antonio and became) the Texans in 1995.

John currently lives in Ohio. He responded with a nice note and two extra autographed cards (the Jogo ones) thanking me for being a fan of the World League.
