Morgan, Anthony

CARDS: Action Packed Rookies 1991, Skybox Premium 1993
ACQUIRED: TTM 2022, C/o Home
SENT: 8/26 RECEIVED: 9/22 (27 days)

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

  • Anthony Morgan played college ball at Tennessee from 1988-90.
  • Dangerous WR and return man, had 35 receptions for 546 yards and 3 TDs, and 37 kick returns for 862 yards over college career.
  • Selected in the 5th round of the 1991 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears.
  • Bears used Morgan primarily as a receiver over his time with the franchise.
  • In both ’91 and ’92, he caught two 80+ yard TD receptions.
  • Anointed a starter for the ’93 season, Morgan oddly found himself the odd man out by August.
  • He’d be a mid season replacement by the Packers, and spend the next few years, on and off the franchise roster.
  • Still Anthony managed to hang on for a Super Bowl victory with the Packers.
  • In both ’94 and ’95 while in Green Bay, he caught 4 TDs in each season, and posted at least 40 receptions.
  • Cut by the Packers in ’96,he’d retire soon thereafter.

NOTES:

A special shout out to Chris for tracking this one down who had flown under the radar for some time. He signed these two nice cards for me, as another member of the Action Packed 1991 Rookies set is down. I like his autograph. It’s very linear, but the loops give it a great accent.

Topps 2001 Gridiron Gear, #NNO

NOTES:

James had 14 cards over his career. It’s interesting to note because the vast majority of them appeared in 1994 (11). Then after 6 years, he pops back up in 2001 with 3 more XFL cards. I was super eager to get James on these cards. I was pretty disappointed to send him his XFL promo card and never see that again back in 2019, little less to the same address that I saw a success from later. In the interim I had reloaded and had gotten really lucky, picking up this patch card of him that I later sent to him as well.

Schad, Mike

CARDS: Topps 1990, Fleer 1990
ACQUIRED: TTM 2022, C/o Home
SENT: 10/31 RECEIVED: 11/14 (15 days)

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

  • Mike Schad (OL) was a 1st Round pick of the Los Angeles Rams in 1986, who hailed from Queens, Canada.
  • At the time, was the highest Canadian born player selected in NFL Draft (#23 overall).
  • Injuries derailed Schad’s first two seasons in the NFL so badly, he was left exposed by the Rams in Plan B during 1989.
  • Joined the Eagles in March of ’89 and was immediately slotted in as starter at LG.
  • Ironically earned a game ball for helping the Eagles beat the Rams in 1990, 27-21.
  • Played with the Eagles through 1993 and the Browns in 1994.
  • Started 55 games (62 played) over NFL career.
  • Returned to Canada for final season with the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1995.

NOTES:

I think Mike had 3… maybe 4 cards total in his career, so the fact I had 50% of them, and one of them was a set need- I think it was a good sign to go ahead and send these two out to him.
