Shawn Moore eluded me a few years ago and it was really a pants down situation. I mean, I sent him a nice group of cards but never heard back. Luckily, I always have made it a habit to reload on WLAF cards I only had singles on; However, I didn’t have an extra copy of Shawn’s Star Pics 1991 that I really wanted to get signed so I ended up sending this terrible Upper Deck 1992 card of his with it. Still I should be happy to finally knock of this retry reply from my list.

My friend Deadhorse got a trial subscription to Star Tiger, which is a competitor to sportscollectors. He loaned me the login since I was curious so that I could take a look. I found the hierarchy to be terrible, and most of the sports addresses were consistent with what I had already found, but I did find Shawn’s most recent address on there and decided to give it a shot. A few weeks later, a water soaked return envelope arrived at the house with Shawn’s autographs inside. (Thankfully the cards were not damaged.)

Shawn moved on from coaching at his alma mater after 2012. He’s had a few football related positions since then including working as the Director of Community Relations for the College Football Playoff system. Currently he works in administration system of a private school in Virginia.

Brown, Garry

Card: Sage 2017
Acquired:  2017, Box Breaker

Garry Brown is an intriguing prospect out of little known football school University of California, Pennsylvania.  Garry brings a lot of intangibles to the table. He’s a competitive student of the game, with a lot of potential, willingness to learn, and special teams experience.

While playing for the Vulcans, Garry paced wide receivers at all NCAA levels in scoring, averaging 13 points per contest, and averaging 4th in the nation with 184.9 all-purpose yards.  His 2106 stats were truly astounding as he piled up 91 receptions for 1,475 yards and 22 TDs.  At the conclusion of the year, he earned was the Harlon Hill Trophy- the D2 equivalent of the Heisman Trophy.

While he posted some truly outstanding numbers, he faced stiff competition from a very competitive WR field in 2017.  Considered a 7th round pick or a high priority free agent, he signed after the draft with the Oakland Raiders. After he was cut he joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ practice squad, and then in 2018 signed with the Ottawa Redblacks. Currently he’s a free agent.

Cavil, Kwame (3)

Acquired: In Person 2016, Jordan Shipley Camp

Kwame loves signing cards when I see him. When I presented these two cards to him after camp, his first response was, “Ohhhh yeah!” Cavil has been rounding the football camp for kids circuit over the past few years. He’s very good with them, knows how to organize and lead, and it seems that all the kids respond well in kind and just love him. As of 2016 Cavil has moved from Manor High School up to Temple where he coaches football as well.

Coincidentally both of these cards are very important numbers in their ‘limited release’ with the Sage being #1 of 4,500, and the Upper Deck issue coming in at 1000 of 1000. It means very little value wise, but as far as their place in my universe, it’s the first time I’ve ever hit on either end like that.
