CAREER SNAPSHOT:

  • John Rade played LB at Boise State, where he was twice named to theAll Conference Team in 1981 and 1982.
  • Finished his college career with 171 tackles, and set school records for tackles for loss in a game, and tackles for loss in a season with 31.
  • Selected in the 1983 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons in the 8th Round.
  • Stepped almost immediately into the starting lineup popping off 117 tackles as a rookie.
  • Returned a fumble for a TD his rookie year against New England.
  • Had a career high 5 sacks in 1985, and returned a pick for a TD against Denver.
  • In both ’87 and ’88 led team in tackles respectively with 123, and 137.
  • Went over 100 tackles in 6 of his first 8 seasons.
  • Had a career high 145 stops in 1990.
  • Injuries caught up to him in ’91 and limited Radar to 58 tackles on the season.
  • Retired after the season with 959 total tackles.
  • Went into coaching at the high school level eventually ascending to athletic director.

NOTES:

Radar was very underrated over his career. He made it into a few of the card sets and was a pet favorite of Pro Set, but oddly missed out on Score and Action Packed. His 959 total career tackles would rank 3rd behind Tuggle and Scott Case.
