Sexton, Mathew

CARD: TNT XFL 2023
ACQUIRED: IP, 2025

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

  • Mathew played WR at Eastern Michigan from 2016-’20.
  • He caught 100 passes for 1335 yards and 9 TDs in 43 contests.
  • Undrafted he’d play in The Spring League in 2020.
  • Signed with the Steelers but didn’t make the squad.
  • Signed with the Chiefs in 2022, but was later placed on IR.
  • In 2023 Mathew played for the Vegas Vipers of the XFL 23.
  • Caught 23 passes for 326 yards in 8 contests.
  • Signed with the Falcons and later Patriots in 2023 but was released.
  • Saw time in camp in 2024 with the Dolphins but didn’t make the squad.
  • After the merger of the USFL and XFL, Mathew signed with the San Antonio Brahmas.
  • Played in 4 contests, catching 3 passes for 15 yards.
  • That season he scored on a punt return to beat the eventual UFL Champion DC Defenders and help the Brahmas win their only contest of the season.
  • Sexton had 8 punt returns for 154 yards and a TD on the season.

NOTES:

Just coasted in for the win on this one. When Matt joined the Brahmas I knew they’d put him to work. His signing was a footnote- but being aware of his history as a dependable receiver on a not so hot Vegas team, that played in a terrible stadium, I knew he’d be money. I went to work creating his card with the idea just maybe I’d get it signed.

After he returned his first punt and almost broke loose, I quipped to him on Instagram that he was one step away from breaking one loose. He liked that comment and the image of his card I put up. The next week he broke loose for that TD on the PR, and the rest was history.

It seemed to line up perfectly. After the Brahmas advertised and told me that an event in SA was going to have players- I was pretty annoyed when they backed out of it. I kept the receipts and asked my ticket manager what happened. When I showed him the emails we exchanged about it, he offered me a free after game autograph signing. -I jumped on it.

After the Brahmas got trounced by the Roughnecks, I got piled into a line and shuffled down below. I was excited to see who was going to be there. 8 chairs! 8 chairs of players! -Well no. Not at all. Instead it was 3 players, hastily called over as they walked off the field. Two other players came over. They didn’t have cards, and the team didn’t provide the autograph postcard they promised in another email. Thankfully Mathew was in the group and I got his autograph on this card.

I gave him the extra I had. Clanked the plastic holder there and said, “This is for you.” He seemed very happy to have his own card and thanked me for my effort. Sometimes the expense is completely worth it for the quality, as I heard him like many players who are in shock about having their own card: “Wow, it looks so real.”

McClendon, Jalan

CARDS: Topps XFL 2020, TNT XFL 2023
ACQUIRED: IP 2025, San Antonio Brahmas v Houston Roughnecks

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

  • Jalan McClendon has taken an interesting path to playing professional football.
  • Played sparingly at QB for NC State from 2014-’17 and then at Baylor in 2018.
  • Undrafted, Jalan spent time in the camps of the Ravens and Redskins, and then did workouts with the Giants and Packers- all in 2019.
  • He’d be selected by the Los Angeles Wildcats of the XFL 20.
  • Again, he’d spend time riding the bench, seeing some action here and there throughout the abbreviated 5 game season.
  • McClendon was selected by the Vegas Vipers of XFL23.
  • He’d start 4 games, and complete 67 of 112 passes for 873 yards and 5 TDs to 1 interception.
  • With fleet feet, he escaped defenses to the tune of 30 carries for 137 yards.
  • With the merger between the USFL and XFL completed in time for 2024, McClendon was picked up by the DC Defenders.
  • Jalan backed up Jordan Ta’Amu but completed 13 of 21 passes for 129 yards in reserve duty.
  • Finally in 2025, McClendon was given a chance to shine for the Houston Roughnecks.
  • Fighting his way through a QB derby to start, he’d lead the team to a 4-2 record as starter, and complete 147 of 225 passes for 1464 yards and 6 TDs to 3 picks.

NOTES:

I had spied Jalan off the roster of the Roughnecks and when they signed him I felt he had starter material written all over him from his rugged appearance with the Vipers in 2023.

I was able to get him pregame early on. He signed these two cards and thanked me for being a fan, very earnestly. He loved the custom of him from his time with the Vipers. I got both his and Mathew Sexton’s, (also a former Viper) signed at the same game.

I really enjoyed making this custom set. It’s too bad that the league has such high churn that I probably won’t be able to finish out this set.

Corbin, Jashaun

CARD: Sage Artistry 2022, Score 2022
ACQUIRED: IP 2025, San Antonio Brahmas v Memphis Express
IP 2025, San Antonio Brahmas v Washington Defenders

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

  • Jashaun Corbin is a talented RB and kick returner with a good blend of elusiveness and speed.
  • He played college ball at Texas A&M in 2018 and ’19, and Florida St from 2020-’21.
  • Over his combined college career he rushed for 1,771 yards on 320 carries, scoring 14 times.
  • He also caught 60 passes for 360 yards and 2 TDs, and moonlighted on kick returns finishing with 601 yards on 24 returns- scoring a TD.
  • Corbin went undrafted but the Giants like what they saw, so he spent the 2022 season mostly on their practice squad.
  • In 2023, the Panthers signed him, but the Giants brought him back by elevating him to the active roster.
  • Unfortunately he’d be waived with an injury designation in August of 2024.
  • The following month- the San Antonio Brahmas of the UFL made their move and signed him to their RB room.
  • Corbin was buried on a talented depth chart behind John Lovett and Anthony McFarland.
  • But by the game 4 of the 2025 UFL season Corbin found himself in the starter’s role.
  • Over the last 5 games of the season, Jashaun ran for over 400 yards.
  • He’d run 9 times for 109 yards and a 57 yard TD against DC.
  • Then follow that up with a 25 carry 142 yard (TD) effort against Memphis.
  • He’d win the UFL’s rushing title in the final game at home against Arlington, and finish with 514 yards on 97 carries and 4 TDs.
  • After the 2025 UFL season concluded, he was quickly scooped up by the Atlanta Falcons.

ACCOLADES:

  • All UFL 2025
  • UFL Rushing Leader 2025

NOTES:

So I was at the San Antonio Brahmas pep rally before the season and ran into GM Mark Lillibridge. I told him about some of the moves from 2023 that I thought were very savvy, and I talked about how impressed I was with his stacked backfield. He told me that I haven’t seen anything yet and that, Jashaun Corbin is the real deal.

I went home and watched some film on Corbin and was very excited. While I didn’t see him and McFarland paired up in the backfield like I dreamed, I put Corbin’s name out there as a late draft stash move to pick up for UFL Fantasy fans. Looking back now I look like a genius.

After the Memphis game, the Brahmas began to get into the habit of exiting towards the visiting side for everything. This allowed me to get critical added exposure to players that I hadn’t seen before to get their autographs. Corbin was chief among them. He signed an Artistry card for both me and my friend Joe, however I fumbled and forgot I had his Score card with me too!

Thankfully after the Defenders finale in which he won the league rushing title, I saw him down on our end of the field. He remembered me and came over to sign the Score card and then one of the OL came over and told me the card would be worth millions because Corbin was going back to the NFL. We all had a great laugh.

Unfortunately this would be the end of my autograph collecting with the Brahmas. A new owner, Mike Repole, took control of the UFL and made changes to the league. He opted to move the teams to smaller venues and considered changing the Renegades name to the ‘Texas’ Renegades. That’s when I realized that the Brahmas were on the chopping room floor. A few weeks went by and the news was announced: The Brahmas were no more. The city of San Antonio, which I had accurately assessed in my end of year coverage of the team- didn’t have a stadium that could support the Brahmas at about 20k capacity. I’m so bummed and burned by the Brahmas leaving. It makes sense- sure. But the breakup was unexpected and bad.
