Blizzard, Bobby

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

  • Bobby Blizzard played TE for Kentucky in 1999-00 posting 30 receptions for 275 yards.
  • Transferred to North Carolina, and after sitting out a year, played for the Tar Heels in in 2002 and 03.
  • Led the team in ’02 with 28 receptions for 440 yards and 5 TDs and garnered national attention for positional watch lists.
  • Felled by viral meningitis during senior year, impacting his numbers.
  • Finished college career with 78 receptions for 876 yards and 6 TDs.
  • Went undrafted in the 2004 NFL Draft, but signed as a free agent by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
  • After being cut, was signed by the Cardinals.
  • Assigned to the NFLE, Blizzard played for the Hamburg Sea Devils.
  • Caught 34 passes for 335 yards and 2 TDs.
  • Returned to the Cardinals but was injured and released.
  • Signed by the Baltimore Ravens late in the year and was on the team’s practice squad through mid-06.
  • Had an outstanding year in Europa playing for the Cologne Centurions in 2007, leading most TEs in all receiving categories.
  • The Bengals signed Blizzard to the team that year, but he suffered a career ending back injury.
  • Bobby joined his former coach at Kentucky- Hal Mumme at a variety of stops at the Division III level.
  • In 2019, Bobby followed Mumme to the AAF serving as TEs coach of the Memphis Express.
  • After the league collapsed, he joined Mumme on the staff of the XFL Renegades as RB coach, and later as co-offensive coordinator in 2020.

NOTES:

A nice coup for me, Bobby is another solid player/ prospect of the NFLE/Europa who has become an intriguing up and coming coaching prospect. An apostle of the Hal Mumme tree, Blizzard came to my attention after he joined the AAF in 2019. I’ve been a fan ever since.

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

  • Played TE for the University of Cincinnati and Grand Rapids Community College.
  • Went undrafted in 2013.
  • Played Arena ball with the Colorado Ice and Bemidji Axemen of the IFL in 2014.
  • Spent the next 3 seasons playing with the Shock (2014-15) and Steel (2016).
  • After not catching on with the Colts in 2016, Rattlers (2017), Stampeders and Gladiators (2018), made the practice squad of the Vikings in 2018.
  • Signed with the AAF Salt Lake City Stallions in late 2018 and had a solid season for the team, hauling in 24 passes for 269 yards and 3 TDs.
  • Joined Jets, and later the Vipers during 2019 playing in the XFL’s 2020 campaign.
  • Spent time in The Spring League with the Aviators in late 2020.
  • Selected by the New Jersey Generals of the New USFL in 2022, but was released before the season due to a groin injury.

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

  • Defensive End that played from 2011-14 for Louisville.
  • Racked up 81 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 9 sacks, 3 pass deflections and 1 forced fumble over 4 years.
  • Drafted in the 6th round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans.
  • Saw action in 4 contests, posting an interception and a pass deflection.
  • Waived in 2016, spent the year on and off the active roster of the Indianapolis Colts.
  • Waived off of IR in 2017 and later released, but later signed with the Broncos, recording 7 combined tackles.
  • Spent 2018 on IR after suffering season ending injury during OTAs- then waived.
  • Selected by the Tampa Bay Vipers of the XFL 2020. 
  • Started 2 games for the Vipers, recording 6 total tackles.
