DELONTAE SCOTT TAC 2 SAC 1.0

NOTES:

Delontae Scott was the last player I got post game, after the Brahmas upset the previously unbeaten Stallions at the Alamodome. I saw him hugging his kid and talking to his wife, so I rushed around the side to get him. I got his attention when I told him I had cards of him, and he came over curiously and said, “This is pretty cool.” I told him he could have a few for his family and his eyes got pretty big. I then asked for his glove as well as an autograph, and he responded with, “Absolutely!”

After they let the season ticket holders onto the field, Delontae was one of the players who came back out to thank us for sticking with them throughout the last season and this one, as well as making a lot of noise to really frustrate the Stallions offense.

Summers, Jamar

Topps AAF NOW 2019, #8

CARDS: Topps AAF 2019, Topps XFL 2020 Certified, Topps AAF NOW 2019
ACQUIRED: IP 2024, San Antonio Brahmas v Arlington Renegades

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

  • Jamar Summers is a solid DB who can play CB and S in a pinch.
  • He played for Connecticut where he tied for the nation’s lead in interceptions with 8 in his sophomore season of 2015.
  • Undrafted, he suited up with the Steelers in 2018.
  • Jamar joined the AAF in 2019 when he was signed by the Birmingham Iron.
  • In 7 contests he had 3 picks, 15 tackles, and 2 FF before the league collapsed.
  • He was a signee of the Detroit Lions later that year.
  • Then in 2020 played in the XFL for the New York Guardians.
  • In the COVID shortened season he had 16 tackles and a pick in 3 starts.
  • Houston of the USFL would be his next stop in 2022, raking in 26 tackles.
  • In 2023, Jamar played in the XFL for the Vipers, before finally playing in 2024 for the Renegades.

NOTES:

When the teams were going back to the locker room after warmups, Jamar came over and said that he had mad respect for my AAF jersey. I said to him, “I KNOW WHO YOU ARE JAMAR SUMMERS AND I HAVE CARDS OF YOU!” He excitedly agreed to sign them on the spot. Since I was wearing my San Antonio Commanders jersey, we talked about the matchup between SA and Birmingham for a hot minute.

He was surprised that I remembered it, but he remembered it down to the correct score! I then quipped about how the weather was terrible and there was a tornado watch that day and they played in a torrential downpour. We both also reminisced that we couldn’t believe it’d been 5 years.

When he saw my AAF cards, he was like, “Oh wow! A true fan!” (Especially when he laid his eyes upon the ultra rare Topps AAF Now 2019 card of his.)

Of note, I think I had gotten Jamar’s Topps XFL Certified sometime ago, but because he ham fisted the autograph, I resisted posting it for a while. It will certainly make a good conversation starter next time I see him.
In a rush to get out the door, I forgot that he had a Topps XFL 2020 base card as well. There’s always hopefully next year!

NOTES:

I had heard that Brian was a player rep for the league. I had packed cards on occasion and kept hoping he’d appear. Along the way I had lost the two cards I wanted signed the most. Knowing the XFL Championship was coming up and that’d be the best chance I’d have at getting him, I packed these three cards.

When I got inside the stadium I found my seat, and IDed him almost immediately, but I wasn’t 100% sure. He was in a crowd so I Googled him to be sure, and then called out his name. He looked surprised a fan IDed him in the stands and ambled over. He signed my three cards for me and asked me what team I was cheering on. I told him that I thought the Renegades would win. I had a good feeling. The energy was with them and they were surging. Westbrook shook his head and said no way! It’s gotta be the Defenders. They had a solid season and are stacked!

-The Renegades ended up winning 35-26.

Unfortunately after the USFL and XFL merged, Brian’s position was considered redundant.
