Williams, Jonathan

Jonathan Williams played runninback for the Arkansas Razorbacks from 2012 to 2014.  Every year Jonathan’s numbers improved culminating in his junior year in which he had 211 carries for 1190 yards and 12 TDs.  After sitting out his entire senior year due to a foot injury, Williams was selected in the 5th round of the 2016 NFL Draft.  He’d play sparingly over the course of his rookie season rushing for 94 yards, and scoring his first touchdown against the New England Patriots. Jonathan was cut in 2017, and quickly found a home with the Broncos on their practice squad.  Soon thereafter the New Orleans Saints stepped in, and signed Jonathan to a two year deal off of Denver’s practice squad. Currently, Jonathan is a member of the Indianapolis Colts.

Jones, Brian (LB)

Originally a UCLA commitment, Brian Jones was a rare transfer victory during the days of Coach David McWilliams. He played for UT from 1988 to 1990. In both 1989 and 1990 he garnered All-SWC Honors and posted 117 tackles in his Senior season.

He was selected by the then Los Angeles Raiders in the 6th round of the 1991 draft, however the Colts traded for Brian before the season even began. The next few years found Jones bouncing on and off the rosters of the Dolphins (1992) and Raiders (1994). He then joined the Scottish Claymores of the newly reconstituted WLAF or NFLE- where he found success and was spotted by the New Orleans Saints. He spent 4 seasons with the franchise before ultimately retiring in 1998.

Brian finished his communications degree in 2000, and went into radio. Later he moved to TV and has been in College Football and lifestyle programming ever since. I got lucky on this one after failing on another address last year.  Brian was one of my favorite linebackers growing up. I was really surprised that he was taken so late in the 1991 draft. Still he managed to carve out quite a career for himself and parlay it to the next level.

Quarles, Kelcy

Card: Leaf Draft 2014

Defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles played college ball for the Gamecocks of South Carolina from 2011-2013. He posted 66 solo tackles, 39 assists, 23.5 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, 1 pass defended, and 1 fumble recovery over his time at the school.  He was expected to be drafted somewhere around round 5 or 6, but fell out of the draft entirely and became a priority free agent.

Signing with the Giants after the 2014 Draft, he’d be claimed off of waivers by the Patriots and placed on their practice squad. The Colts signed Kelcy from the Patriots- but found himself on and off the regular roster the remainder of the season. He’d be waived in 2015 and returned to the Patriots practice squad later in the year. Then he’d be cut, and returned again to the Colts, where he played the rest of the season. Although he did not make the final roster of the squad in 2016, he’d be on and off the practice squad throughout the rest of the year.  In his brief NFL career, Kelcy played in 2 games making 1 tackle, 1 sack, and a pass defended.

Quick rant. So I went into Walmart, and they had these great little hangar packs called ‘Walmart Autographed Memorabilia’. Like the Target cousin, I’m not expecting much. I get 5 packs of cards and an autograph AND a patch card. For 15 bucks- yeah okay- it works, but when it is hanging on the $9.99 rack: Two please! That’s what led me to my problem. They weren’t hanging there because they were priced at $9.99 each. They were there because somebody ignorantly hung them there. Needless to say the store manager refused to give me the $9.99 price point, so I refused to buy any of them out of principle. Later I came back to the store and found them hanging again on the $9.99 rack.
