CAREER SNAPSHOT:
Lonnie Young played DB for Michigan State from 1982-84.
Recorded 6 interceptions for 10 yards over college career.
12th round pick of the St. Louis Cardinals in 1985.
A savvy selection by a much beleaguered franchise, Young stepped into the starting lineup at FS and had 3 interceptions, 80 total tackles, 6 pass deflections, and a fumble recovery.
Had a solid ’90 campaign recording 111 total tackles.
Traded to the New York Jets in 1991.
Started 26 games over 3 seasons, recording 3 interceptions for 21 yards and 236 tackles.
Played the 1994 season with the San Diego Chargers, appearing in their lone Super Bowl appearance.
Returned to the Jets in 1995, retiring after the ’96 season.
NOTES:
Lonnie appears in Tecmo Super Bowl with the Arizona Cardinals, however oddly he has outlandish stats and abilities, making him one of the most complete defensive backs in the game.
I’ve never had a player sign an autograph with a smiley face- but there’s always a first!

ACCOLADES:
San Fransisco 49ers 50th Anniversary Modern All-Time Team
NOTES: After 2 failures, I finally was able to get Dexter Carter on his Action Packed card I wanted to have him sign all along. I had pretty much run out of cards, save for these last 3. His Score 1990 really stands out. It’s a beautiful, rare frontal shot of Dexter darting for daylight.
Dexter really didn’t get the credit he deserved as a returner outside of SF. One wonders that if he played 10-15 seasons like other accomplished returnmen if Dexter would’ve gotten the acclaim he deserved.
Dexter is notable as during his 1995 campaign between the Jets and the 49ers, he ended up playing in 17 games that year during a 16 game skid.
Had a marvelous journey as a quarterback playing through 18 seasons for 3 leagues and 8 teams from 1952-69.
Played for Kentucky from 1949-51.
In an era not renown for passing, threw for 1627 yards (114/203) and 23 TDs to 12 INT in 1950.
4th pick of the 1952 NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers.
Joined CFL Ottawa Rough Riders in 1954, playing there through 55, and also again in 59.
Returned to NFL for a one year stint with the Browns in 56.
Again, played for Packers in 57 and 58.
After one year stint with the CFL again in 59, played for the Oakland Raiders in 1960.
After middling success with Oakland, was traded as part of a blockbuster deal to the Boston Patriots.
Played for the Patriots from 1961-67.
At time of departure from Boston, owned all the franchise’s passing records and many AFL ones as well.
Retired after winning Super Bowl III as Joe Namath‘s backup in Super Bowl III.
Had extensive coaching career.
Passed away in 2017 at the age of 87 after a battle with cancer.
NOTES:
In an age of more sexy names, I really hadn’t considered the legacy of Babe, compared to guys like Tom Brady (of course), or even Drew Bledsoe or Steve Grogan for that matter. -That being said Babe paved the way for those guys.
