Awalt, Robert ‘Rob’ (2)

Pro Set 1989, #328

CARDS: Fleer Update 1990, Pro Set 1989, Fleer 1990
ACQUIRED: TTM 2022, C/o Work
SENT: 5/16 RECEIVED: 12/5 (203 days)

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

NOTES:

Briefly here Robert was the longest wait for 2022, but was quickly superseded within two weeks. He’s a great signer- but makes fans wait upwards of a year to get things back TTM. I got him once at training camp. After that I always wanted to add him on at least his 89 Pro Set.

I mean- technically, Robert is German since he was born in Landstuhl, West Germany, however by the time he was in high school he was living in California.

  • Played for the Bucs from 1993-96.
  • Saw limited playing time over those years, most extensively in 1995, completing 42 of 91 passes for 519 yards and a TD.

  • Threw a memorable 70 yard TD pass to fellow Buccaneer Tyree Davis against the Monarchs.
  • Was on the roster of the Chargers (’97), and Redskins (’98-’00) but didn’t see any playtime.

  • Had best season as a pro throwing for 1228 yards and 7 TDs on 102 completions (164 attempts), but injuries ended his season and his carer.
  • Has gone into coaching since retirement.

ACCOLADES:

  • Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award 1992
1992 Classic, #31

NOTES:

I failed on getting Casey back in 2019. I think I flushed a Loaded Cannon card, but that’s okay. After doing some research I tracked down a good address for him and shot these two cards out earlier in 2022. I was a bit disappointed when someone else who sent to him later than me stole my thunder and got him back first, but the TTM gods granted me their favor and finally I got Casey in the mail. The Classic is a bit smeared but no big deal. It was the Topps XFL 2001 that I was truly after.

NOTES:

I mean, it’d been some 12 years since I TTMed Ray, and in that period he’s been off and on the TTM bandwagon, signing now albeit slowly for fans. I had developed set needs during that time- namely the Action Packed and Gameday sets, but I had also liked his Fleer as well. Seeing that I’d be lucky to get two, I decided to pack these two away and see what would happen. Among players I’d like to still meet from those yesteryears, Ray is still pretty high up there, due to him being probably my favorite Oiler on the DL.

The Stars & Stripes cards are among my least favorite sets, but my friend was taking a break from the hobby and was having a hard time. He couldn’t find a buyer so I offered to take a bunch off his hands. I didn’t really care what he sent me because I knew he was hard up and needed help. Getting a Childress was a bonus.
