Tre Walker played WR at San Jose St from 2017-2020.
His breakout year came as Junior when he had 79 receptions for 1161 yards and 2 TDs.
Finished college career with 189 receptions for 2790 yards and 12 TDs.
Signed as an UDFA by the Buffalo Bills following the 2021 Draft, but did not make the squad.
In 2022, was selected in the 12th round of the USFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Maulers.
Despite the team’s offensive struggles, Tre recorded 33 receptions for 362 yards and a touchdown.
Had 359 all purpose yards (200 receiving, 17 rushing, and 142 in kick returns) in the 2023 season, despite missing a portion of the season due to injury.
Although resigned by the Maulers for 2024, the USFL merged with the XFL and Pittsburgh was not retained.
NOTES:
A nice start to my USFL card set, Tre sent me a nice note and wrote on my card ‘much love’. He still has gas in the tank and I hope he latches on with a new team soon.
My friend Mark (Mark’s Signing Bonus), sent me a box of the USFL to get me started, so I figured why not and dove right in to getting them autographed. While the set is pretty small, there are still some active players in the league who are now in the UFL.
CARD: Topps XFL 2020 ACQUIRED: IP 2023, San Antonio Brahmas v Houston Roughnecks
CAREER SNAPSHOT:
Ajene Harris displayed solid versatility for USC, playing DB, PR, and WR during his time at the school.
Over his last 3 years for the Trojans, he posted 144 total tackles, and 6 picks.
After spending training camp with the Eagles, Ajene joined the Houston Roughnecks in 2020.
As part of a gambling, dangerous secondary, Ajene posted 20 tackles.
He’d play for the Pittsburgh Maulers of the USFL in 2022 and post a tackle before returning again to the XFL.
Like an old glove, Ajene returned to the Roughnecks for 2023.
Picked on relentlessly by QBs Harris posted pretty good numbers on the outside.
He had 5 interceptions (league leader) for 15 yards, and 31 total tackles.
After the XFL Roughnecks were dispersed, he was selected by the Arlington Renegades for the upcoming 2024 season.
NOTES:
Ajene came over and signed this lone card for me. He loved that I had the OG Roughnecks jersey on, and told me that I needed to get a jersey of him next. He and I talked briefly about 2020, when the Roughnecks went into Arlington and pummeled the Renegades at home. We had a good laugh as he signed the card, and I told him he almost gave me a heart attack by giving up a few big plays that led to the OT effort by the Brahmas that weekend.
Slowly I had been working my way back around to Mike after about a 9 year layoff or so. I had been sold the Score 1990 card as part of a big lot of cards from the Akron Acquisition- so I needed a few more to fill out the ranks. Mike is another one of these players I didn’t want to see in his other NFL uniform (Falcons in this case). He still had some great Oilers cards I wanted to get signed- and once I got the Upper Deck 1997 card -in 2018, I made the decision to write him again. To seal the deal I also pulled this Panini Contenders card of him and put it aside for send out since I’ve gotten a few autographs recently around that set.
High grades for his Legends card from Upper Deck. Love the sports photography and how its got that nice action blur in the background. Far too often I’ve noticed photos where the people in the background are clear as day and distract from the player. In this case- this photo feels like a training or mini camp shot. I think the bushy trees give it away. Still, it’s a nice piece.
Mike’s Action Packed 1990 card is okay. I think it’s typical of AP at that time with that distance of framing images, but in this case, I feel like the image should’ve been pulled back a bit. Was Mike diving for a TD? Reaching out from a pile? Struggling to get back to the line of scrimmage? The design like all AP from 90 was simple and elegant however.
The Score 1990 set was a letdown from 89. I mean nothing could top what they did in that first set. The design here is nice, but the bordering with the logo is a bit heavy. The neon green marquee feels a bit unnecessary and forced. I kept wondering, “What does purple have to do with the Oilers?” It’s a decent action shot but I question Mike’s sense of dress as his thermal shirt sleeves are quite dated.
No question the Panini Contenders Draft Picks set has grown on me over the last… year or so. While I find it a bit over designed it’s a set that has a good selection of names in it. This shot however of Mike is terrible. He just looks like he’s jogging off the field to the sidelines.
Celebrating the game, the players, the cards, and the autographs for over 25 years.
