CAREER SNAPSHOT:

NOTES:

Ozzie just keeps signing after all these years, and after getting him back in 2019, I thought I was done. Then I got hooked on all the set needs and realized all the cards I hadn’t gotten The Wiz on. I figured I might as well get the rest out there I could, biting my nails on the Whizzer White cards which while rare are still fairly common on the secondary market- just jacked up in price by opportunists. Although it took a bit longer than usual, the autographs were as advertised, knocking out these very final photographic cards.

Aguiar, Louis ‘Louie’

Pro Set 1991 WLAF Helmet Collectible, #1

CARDS: Pro Set 1991 WL Insert, Pro Set 1992, Topps Stadium Club 1992
ACQUIRED: TTM 2021, C/o Home
SENT: 2/26 RECEIVED: 3/21 (23 days)

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

  • Louie Aguiar played college ball at Utah State and went undrafted in 1989.
  • Aguiar tried out for the Bills in subsequent seasons, but eventually was cut.
  • He’d make a positive impression on the Bills coaching staff, so they recommended Louie to Jack Bicknell, head coach of the Barcelona Dragons in the World League.
  • Louie played the ’91 season in Barcelona, making an impression on the New York Jets.
  • He signed with NY shortly after World Bowl I concluded.
  • Played for the Jets from 1991-’93, averaging 39.6 yards on 210 punts in 49 contests.
  • Louie joined the Chiefs in 1994- where he’d play through the ’98 season.
  • He’d conclude his career after one year stints for the Packers (’99) and Bears (’00).

ACCOLADES:

  • All Pro 1995

NOTES:

Louie was well known for a booming leg and was frequently used on kickoffs.

A sneaky success story of the World League, Aguiar went on to play in the NFL for 10 seasons. I was surprised he didn’t have a card in the league, but that’s why this helmet card was perfect for him to sign.

CAREER SNAPSHOT:

  • OL Jim Dombrowski was the first round pick out of Virginia by the New Orleans Saints in 1986.
  • Over his career Dombrowski developed and displayed solid, workmanlike play, opening up holes along the line for the backs and blocking for QBs.
  • He started out slowly- only starting 3 games his rookie season, becoming a FT starter during the middle of the ’87 season.
  • Jim played his entire 11 year career in NO, initially as a left tackle, and later in his career as a right guard.
  • Retired after the 1996 campaign.

ACCOLADES:

  • New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame
  • New Orleans Saints 35th Anniversary Team
  • New Orleans Saints 50th Anniversary Team
  • College Football Hall of Fame 2008
  • Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame 2013
  • Polish – American Sports Hall of Fame 2013
  • #73 Retired Virginia Cavaliers

NOTES:

Jim quietly had a very successful career playing football. He had some really nice cards. Some of the cards from the 1992 Topps Stadium Club card set were really nice. Case in point, this very poignant card of Jim here on the sidelines. Now I typically hate these photos, but this one has some really nice depth of color.
